Hug Yourself Happy Kids do So can you A Lifechanging L'il Snuggle Book For Adults edition by Stephanie Lisa Tara SelfHelp eBooks

This is one of the cutest feel-good books ever! By the time you are finished, you will want to hug anyone you care about, and a few you might not! One of the big take always for me is that while hugs are almost always a good thing, a hug has to last at least 20 seconds to trigger the endorphin release and really make it it a feel good moment! Anything less is more like an air kiss, the intention might be good, but you don’t feel anything!

Kind of a hoot and kind of a sobering set of directives - that work! You might not think that a set of instructions for happiness could be this simple. Well, human happiness isn't by any stretch simple, but every piece of advice is one to take in context and add to a toolbox. For a formulaic, worksheet/diary-driven handbook, this book makes the pursuit of happiness all that more attainable. A day at a time. A hapless hug recipient at a time. No stone is left unturned here, and you'll find yourself engaging with your pet tortoise, your kid, your mortgage broker or that grumpy dude at the ticket booth. Nobody is exempt from the surprise. I like that the author makes it clear that we should certainly ask permission before "goin' in for a nice, 20-second hug" lest it's perceived as a "huh?" and responded to with a squirm, a shrug or even a smack in the grill. For a society on the brink of a collective meltdown in a hailstorm of self-effacing, noncommittal rejection of the soulful, now you can execute and chronicle a heartfelt experiment. Stephanie fueled her assertions with pre-publication research and it seems to me that the testimonials serve to substantiate it. I'm nearly done with my month-long self- and other-huggin' practice and find a new layer of joy added to the old onion. (I grew up in a huggy culture, so this isn't news to me but I must admit that the acceptance of rambunctious embrace in the US pretty well tapered off since the '90s. Therefore, I'm supporting a resurgence and don't care too much how it's received - within reason!) Hug Yourself Happy is breath of fresh air for the seeker of serenity.
I absolutely loved this book. I would recommend this to everyone. Stephanie Tara's exploration of something so simple, so second nature to children is magnificent.
Although I see myself as a hugger, I realize as I've gotten older I don't hug as much. Sometimes we think our loved ones need profound words of wisdom or specific solutions. These can be helpful, but sometimes all they need is a simple hug. The testimonials are touching, and the book comes equipped with a 31 day hug journal. It is, in the most literal sense, a tool for a happier life.
With lot of books that offer complex solutions that often leave us overthinking our every move, this read was a breath of fresh air. I breezed through it in an hour or two without having to re-read any complex paragraphs. Although I would have liked to read more on the science and oxytocin, I believe that would have derailed from the simplicity of the book.
A great read about love, compassion, human connection, and the bond between us and our planet. I look forward to journaling and spreading the love )
So I’ll give you a little gem that you’ll find early on in Hug Yourself Happy-– it’s the suggestion to self-hug-- not usually the first thing you think of when you think of hugs, right? And yet, self-hugs are so readily available (and good! ;) that after reading the book, I decided to make self-hugs a regular part of my day. But there are lots of other hug partners—your children, significant others, canine or feline companion. You’ll see--all wonderful in their own ways. . . This is a truly charming little book, full of wonderful and whimsical suggestions for fun exercises/activities all revolving around hugging. You’ll learn some of the scientific facts that support the benefits of hugging. Think oxytocin. ☺ This book is really a “paper hug” from author Stephanie Lisa Tara. And it’s exquisitely simple (like so many good/wonderful things are!). Included in Hug Yourself Happy are a slew of testimonials from all kinds of people who have used and benefitted from hugs. And among all those experiences, you’re likely to find some that speak directly to you and/or that make you think about something just a little differently. Wonderful stuff. Some of the stories very moving. The book is written in a flowing, light, very personal style. It feels like it’s one of your good friends talking with you, sharing a wonderful discovery. Colorful, charming, and so beneficial, Hug Yourself Happy truly speaks to everyone.
